Description
Washer, a part of the machine that is used in combination with a screw fastener, such as a bolt and nut, which usually serves either to prevent the screw from loosening or to spread the load from the nut or bolt head over a larger area. Thin flat soft steel rings are commonly used for load distribution. Washers serve as springs to compensate for any change in the distance between the head of the bolt and the nut.
